Interview with Tom Dodson

Interview with Tom DodsonWhy should customers hire you?

Call me for any questions or concerns that you may have about your home, or to schedule an appointment for me to come check it out myself. I check every home myself and have never charged a homeowner for an estimate and never will. Contact me for a FREE and HONEST proposal. I am proud to say that I offer a TRULY unconditional, free, transferrable warranty to protect your home as well. My company has been successfully running for 35+ years and continues to grow every day. We are one of the few businesses that can genuinely say that we aren’t in this for the money, we are in this to help as many people fix their homes as we can. We consider every homeowner that contacts us as a valuable part of our family, and we treat every home as if it were our own home. We take all major credit cards and are willing to work with you however we can to make this as easy and stress-free for you as possible. We work with homeowners, engineers, realtors, insurance companies, home inspectors, and commercial businesses. We offer services to both residential and commercial locations all over Collin County and the Dallas metroplex.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started in construction when I was 16 from foundations all the way up to roofing. I found that I love seeing the results of the work that I do. When you stand in front of a house that you personally helped build, you get to stand in front of a personal accomplishment. I take pride in putting the best into everything that I do and decided to build a company out of my love for this field.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I learned by being on the job and by working through every job that goes into building homes. Every home is a learning process and I have over 50 years or experience in what it takes to build homes. You must stay on top of the changing methods and continue your education of what works best to make sure everything works the best it can. It all starts with a good foundation.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Every home is special to us. We treat every home as if it were our home and every homeowner as a part of our family. No job is more important than another. Each job takes us about an average of 1-2 days to complete.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Check out the company, their reviews, and testimonials. Check how long they have been in business. Make sure to ask all important questions (see what questions to ask below). Carefully read their warranty and research what type of warranty the company gives. Make sure to ask if the warranty is free transferrable or what it would cost to transfer it if you were every to sell your home.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their projects?

  • How long has the company been in business?
  • What kind of experience do they have?
  • Do they sub-contract?
  • Do they have insurance?
  • Do they take responsibility if something goes wrong?
  • What type of pier does the company use and why?
  • What kind of warranty do they offer? (Is it free transferrable or is there a fee if you decide to sell your home?)
  • Will you have to pay the company any more money if they have to come back to fix what they worked on?

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I teach them about foundation repair and about how their home is built from the ground up. I teach them about the different types of piers and which ones should be used in Texas soil including which piers should NOT be used and why. I try to help them understand the process as much as I can so they understand what it is that I will be doing to fix their home. I then answer any questions that the homeowner has for me. Our process isn’t about selling piers to homeowners, it’s about fixing their home the right way.

What types of customers have you worked with?

We work in both residential and commercial locations, big and small. We also work with realtors, insurance companies, home inspectors, engineers, homeowners, or anybody who needs our help.

What should the homeowner know about your pricing?

We offer a FAIR and HONEST price to every homeowner. We let our homeowners choose a payment plan that they are comfortable with that we can all agree upon. We don’t charge any additional fees for transferring our warranty no matter the circumstances and we don’t charge the homeowner if we ever must come back to fix anything that we worked on. We make sure the job is done correctly no matter what.
